Just put some juice in and as i was filling up i noticed some rust on the filler surround.So i poked it a bit then a bit more now i have a big hole round the cap.
Is this an mot failure and how would you repair it,it is ruined really and it needs some more welding on the sill is this the rusty end of the road.

Rule no:1 never poke around with rust! It grows quickly lol

The only fix is a new fuel tank

Why a new tank? It's not the tank that he said was rusted, just the fuel filler neck area.. behind the flap I assume.

Is that part of the tank i thought it was the shell, its actually all round the inside lip the flap sits in when it closes.

Ah right, I thort you ment the filler neck my bad  :undecided:. Not sure if its an mot failure as its not structural

Bung some filler and fiberglass and paint over it. Its not structural in all fairness

That was what i was sort of thinking but i didnt want to do that and find out it has to be cut out and welded.thanks

easy to repair really mate u can take the rubber bit off around the neck of filler pipe and treat and fill the rusty bits

I'm all for the fibreglass it's not structural and its hidden so don't need to be perfect finish but each to their own and treating first is a must

Thanks boys you never fail,im a lead burner by trade so my metal work etc is pretty good i also do firbreglass roofing as an alternative to lead, but with that as long as i can give the supplier something to get a colour match the resin they supply can be colour matched exactly. im intrested to see what comes back im going to send them some paint for the car.
