Advice needed re buying from VW main dealer.
« on: 29 January 2013, 18:19 »
My sister in law is after buying a 2012 Golf Tdi 1.6 blue motion (105 PS) 5 door. It has 16000 miles on the clock and it is being sold by VW Altrincham, Manchester.

It is for sale at £13,500 and comes with a 12 month mechanical warranty.

I have never bought from a main dealer before as my cars are old and cheap

What is the negotiation margin with a main dealer? 10% etc

and

Why is it only a 12 month warranty? I thought it would still be covered by the 3 year warranty.

Thanks

 Luke

original warranty only applies to the first owner

and it depends on how much profit is in the car (and how long it's being on stock), you can try at 10% although I would be surprised if you get that amount!

Set your budget and stick to it, if they want to sell it they will, I got around 10% off mine from the main dealer as a straight sale with no px.

Have warranties changed then? Going back some but I got my 1996 Gti in 1997 and still had two years warranty?

All my other cars have been outside of warranty age bar 1yr added by dealer
