13" steels + GTI Brakes

The gti has standard GTI disks which i presume are 256mm?
which is approx 10"?
Plus calipers which are probably an 1.5"?

So my question is will the 13" steels from the mk1 fit over GTI brakes so I can sell the car with them and put the passat winters on the cabby?

I won't have the cars side by side to test one until later in the week and if they won't fit i'll have to look into buying a crap 14" set before the mk1 arrives.

Chuff has a set of 14's that he had off of me last year.  Bung him PM to see if he's using them.

if its an 8v discs should be 239mm 16v were 256.

the outer edge of the rim is 13" so best way is just jack it up and see if one fits!

Thanks Guys, Mk2 is going to a friend in london. hopefully the 13's will go on... i'll report back, either way we need to get some 14" steels in london for the new owner and the passat winters can stop in london until i next see my boyfriend and we can swap them onto the mk1 then.

I had 13" alloys on once and had to file a fraction of mm of one of the calipers, but they were probably thicker than steelies so I'm going to bet yes.

I am sure that 256mm's need 14"s clearance.

random question but my golf (none gti) came with 13s and some guy told me it puts more strain on my car. my Speedo out by about 10mph but that might be due to a gti clock in a none gti car. so is he right would 13s put strain on the gear ratio etc.
