Excessive road noise

Hi all,
98 MKIII GTI - Really loud humming like noise when going at over 40mph, I've noticed that the noise/vibrations reduce if I slightly turn the wheel left! Is this a sign that the wheel bearings are gone?
Appreciate any comments..........

Signs do point to a bearing on its way , if its a permanent droning noise ... then it will most likely be that. Not too pricey either....
