Obviously conditions and types of road etc have big differences for everyone on MPG but somtimes  some people are just $hit drivers which also makes a big difference on MPG.

Do daily trip of 15 miles, mainly twisty country roads and lots of stop/start city driving and am getting average of 28mpg.  Like the OP, I'm sure my previous mk5 used to give better mpg.  That said, the average is slowly creeping up, as only averaged 24mpg for approx first 2000 miles.   Hopefully when weather warms up might see more improvement.

My Dad bought a new Kia Venga last year and that seems to be sh1t on fuel. He'd been to the dealers with it and they told him there was nothing wrong. I took it out one morning on an A road crawl following the lorries from home to the first roundabout at Shrewsbury and back to his house. A round trip of just under 40 miles and I averaged 43mpg having reset it before I started. He did the exact same trip later in the day, at the same sort of speeds and managed to drop the average for both trips down to 39mpg. To my reckoning, he must have averaged 35mpg on his journey.

Go figure.

 ^^^^What ever my car or driving style ive always managed pretty much the same mpg. You should have done the same test again and if their was that much difference again take it to the dealers let them go figure

The only variable in my two tests was the driver. Nothing to figure out.

Say no more the driver is the one of the biggest influences on mpg.

Tyre pressure? in winter the pressures can drop a fair bit which usually uses more fuel if not inflated to correct psi. Worth a check.

That fills me with hope. My GTi has only 1600 miles........

I never imagined the cold would make much difference, but lately I've been really struggling to get 50mpg out of my GTD.  This morning, on just a 7 mile journey, I was easily over 52mpg, and had caned it a couple of times too.  Can't wait for the summer, plus a Re-Map!  70mpg here I come!!

I try and check my tyre pressures at least once a fortnight.

Think I've noticed an improvement in mpg already since Sunday what with the warmer weather!
