MPG
« on: 27 January 2013, 17:28 »
My work is 9 miles from my house so I generally do 18 miles a day too and from.  I use to achieve 30-31 mpg in my old Mk5 Golf Gti and around 300 miles to the tank.  When I came to buy a new car in September last year one of the things that tempted me out of a Mk5 and in to a Mk6 Gti was the claimed improvement in mpg.  Unfortunately ive been sadly disappointed as I seem to be averaging only around 28 mpg and only around 280 miles per tank.

Has anyone else had the same experience and or can suggest why this might be?  Cheers

mpg will be much lower this time of year due to the cold starting. the engine probably wont even be warm by the time you get to work.

Like Ken said, it'll be down to the cold weather. It's only 10% down. Compared to most other cars during winter, that's not too shabby.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Be gratefull, I average as little as 21 mpg when using the car for work (short journey).
My overall average is around 25 mpg

My Gti uses about the same amount of fuel as my previous BMW 330 and that is a 3 litre !

Vey strange but we achieve 320-340 miles from a tank with my wife only doing a 10 mile round trip each day, the mapping has made zero difference too but then I know she has a light right foot.

My journey to work is 19 miles each way, varying from country roads through to slow traffic in town and then onto motorway, and i can average 36mpg without having to try, can be as low as 27mpg depending if in a rush.

At the moment I'm getting a tank average of 32-34 mpg with a return of around 380 miles. Daily commute is a steady B road 14 miles.
