Paying with paypal "GIFT"

want to buy an item off a member but i have been asked to pay with paypal (perfect) but to send it as a gift? is that dodgey?

Yeah I always do that with people I've not dealt with or know reasonably from the Forum.
Keeps you safe at the end of the day, and you have to pay the fees regardless when sending as a gift.

If it all goes to pot & the seller screws him over he'll be able to get his money back from Paypal & they will chase the seller for the cash.

I thought that paying by "gift" meant he couldn't get his money back like Chuff said? How will paying the seller an extra £5 change that? Or have i missed something?

Because he doesn't actually pay 'gift'. He pays for an 'item' or 'service' and PayPal take their fee, leaving the buyer protected should the goods not turn up
