Rad Hose Help????????????
« on: 26 January 2013, 14:21 »
Hello,

Some of you may know i have an estate with a 2.0 ABF 16V since last week i got it like it. Now i have been having issues with my alternator belt lately with it hitting on the water pump so we noticed that the A/C compresser was missing which would fix this alternator belt issue if the Pump was fitted so no problems got a pump.....

Went to fit the pump today got it all fitted then noticed that the bottom Rad hose was jammed in between the A/C pump and bottom cross member...

So that wont work.... So im wondering does a MK3 gti 16v bottom rad hose look like this or is it a different setup can anyone see why my Bottom Rad hose is different to a mk3 gti 16v

Thanks Pics Below

i wonder if these hoses are different for cars with A/C and cars without A/C as if these hose if from a car without A/C i.e. the estate engine. The hoses for an A/C car could be slightly different.

so to get this right, a/c pump was missing..... you put it there, do you have the rest of the a/c bits in the car or did you just put a pump there for the sake of there being something stopping you belt from getting shredded?

if it was the latter why don't you just change the pulleys on alternator and water pump as well as p/s pump and it's all easy sorted?

Wrong radiator? I know a radiator from a cabrio has the bottom inlet lower than a standard 8/16v.

Thats correct i didnt relise this could be altered what is required to get the pulleys altered. i did look down that route first but could find any answers on how to do it...

non-ac has 2 belts.

wide belt driving water pump and alternator, v-belt driving the p/s pump. you'll need the pulleys from them for water and p/s pump. pulleys are easy swap, water pump pulley is held on by 3 allen head screws, p/s is probably the same.

ok kinda with you but the water pump and alternator are not in line so i dont think changing the pulleys would bring them inline together. if you see what i mean

my idea was to put the A/C pump back on and put the correct belt back on which would sort it out. But when fitting today it fouled with the bottom Rad Hose.

I believe that there are two different bottom hoses one A/c and one Non A/C and GSF and Motor factors agree with there parts lists but cant source one... I.E. look at this compaired to the one i have http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MK3-GOLF-GTI-BOTTOM-RADIATOR-HOSE-/281017151050?nma=true&si=Y6BZxDppV%252BHXzdxVMMwbexIftNs%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

yeh the rad on the ac set up is deeper aswell you will either need a rad from an ac set up and drill a new hole or change the pulleys
