us style headlights how can I...
« on: 26 January 2013, 13:57 »
Right Im toying with the idea of ditching my front fogs (I havent used them in over a year ) putting in a set of amber indicator lenses in there place so I have x2 amber indicator lenses per headlight.

I want to leave the actual indicator (top lense) alone and let it do the whole indicator routine.

But the bottom amber indicator lense to be on constant like a second side light!?

How can this be done?

Simples, just wire the second indicator in, using the existing fog loom. Yes you'd have to turn your 'fogs' on to run them, but it would be easier (and less intrusive) than splicing into your side light wiring!

Surely you just tap into the sidelight wiring?

Or you could do that

as you can tell im no good at electrics

im liking the sound of using the fog loom seems fairly simple how ever....

(just thinking out loud)

Im going to have to use indicator bulbs (what ever type of bulb they are?) as my 'second side light' as il be using indicator lenses and the indicator bulb holder and the fogs I think are a H1 type and are to long and wont fit in the holder.

so will standard indicator bulbs be fine to be on for long amounts of time or be blowing constantly?

I presume the fog light bulbs also require more power to run 'on' constantly than an indicator bulb 'on' so will the extra power through the wiring be too much for a poxy indicator bulb?

The bulb will only draw what it needs, so a 21W indicator bulb will be drawing less than a 55W fog light bulb. As for the bulb longevity, a 21W indicator bulb is just the same as a rear fog light bulb, and that's happy to stay on all the time. They are as cheap as chips to replace anyway.

Personally tho', I think what you are planning to do will look odd. To those that don't know, i.e. almost everyone else on the road, it'll just loo like your indicators are stuck on. I think US marker lights in the rub strips would be a much better job.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Also if you use the fog light way every time you use it it will put the rear fog light one
