Would faulty ignition switch effect leccy windows ?
« on: 26 January 2013, 12:28 »
It's the only thing i can think of now lol
I've checked the rubber boots where the wiring goes into the doors and there all good (not they are)
Can't find a fuse for the windows either. The rear windows go down but not up and the fronts do nothing, no click nothing just dead.

The wiring diagrams i've found don't make a lot of sense either so i'm struggling...

Any other common faults with them ?

Thanks
Dave

Just the back passenger side door and couldn't find any issues there.
I figured because i can't hear the motors even trying to move on the fronts it's more likely to be wiring fault/fuse/relay issue.
Don't want to take the door cards off until i'm certain i have to because they never seem to go back on right

Check the wires that go to the door from the pillar they tend to break

Checked there first and they were all fine. 2 of them have had a repair in the past which i've done again but no luck.

Ah well i'll leave it alone until the new ignition switch arrives (cheapy from ebay)

i now know where the fuse and relay is for the windows so i'll check those today anyway but it's never that simple lol

Car starts first time every time no problems using the push button just not off the key.

Cheers

Just done what i should have done in the first place and took off the drivers side door card, and guess what was waiting for me lol
The previous owner has jammed the window shut with chocks of wood, the window isn't even connected to the window bar and non of the electrics were plugged in

So after plugging all the connectors back in it seems all the windows only work going down nothing works going up (although the rears go up with the total closure but not buttons.Fronts don't even move with the closure)
It seems unlikely that the up circuit on the motor is faulty on both front doors but possible i suppose. I even took the control unit( attached to the motor) apart but everything looks brand new inside so  :embarrassed:
All i can do now is buy some more complete window mechs and see how it goes, although i'll fit the new ignition switch first though just incase.
  :undecided: hate electrics...
