Engine Management Light (Again)
« on: 25 January 2013, 10:31 »
OK, So i have been having a few issues with my golf as some of you may know, most of which have now been sorted, or atleast i though. But this bloody EML keeps lighting up for no aparent reason.

I've had my mechanic look at it, he scans it for codes, nothing untoward shows up, clears the codes, clears the EML and off i go.

Would it be worth me investing in a fault code reader myself? Will this enable me to clear the EML myself rather than keep going to my mechanic? If so, Is there any specific code reader i shuold go for?

Thanks

can buy cables from ebay and lite version of vcds which will allow you to see fault codes and clear them

However if the light keeps popping up it indicates something is wrong!

I got my scanner from Autel Tech, it's a great bit of kit too. Vital piece of kit for any MK4 owner IMO.

would help if the "mechanic" would actually bother to tell you exact fault codes....
knowing the exact fault code does a lot to diagnose fault correctly!

you mention some issues, can you expand on that ?
ARZ K03s, Oettinger Side Skirts, R32 front, Carbon stage 2, Forge 007p (yellow spring), Forge Actuator (yellow spring), Pipercross panel filter with DSG parts, N249 and N112 deleted, SAI deleted, Carbon canister deleted, Rear wiper deleted, Long Life turbo back custom exhaust with 200 cell sports cat, VR6/G60 clutch kit, Creation Motorsport TIP, Catch can, 'Wellycooler', K04 charge pipe, S3 ported inlet manifold - looks pretty standard on the outside though :)

The issues are sorted, so its not really relevant, but ive recently had stat/temp sender/water pump/cambelt replaced and most recently a boost issue where a pipe had come loose.

But now im not having any issue that i can feel, car is running very well, not boost issues, no power issues, apart from this bloody EML keeps popping up every now and again for no apparent reason.
