a 8v turbo using a desiel manifold and tubby
« on: 24 July 2005, 18:03 »
, no really can this be done. i have a 1.6td turbo with inlet and exhaust mainfolds. and i also have a 8 engine. id it possible to turbo it using this engine. would a g60 headgasket do the job , i only wanna run 6-8 psi so im not going for massive power , just a little bit extra.!!!!

am i mad, and should i stop drinking the beer!!!!!!

this has been asked before and i don't think we came to a conclusion. in theory it should work but in practice......... :undecided:
my thoughts are that most turbo's run low compression pistons whereas 8valves are high compression, so you'd have to do some internal work. it may be easier to buy and old g60 block as these were designed for forced induction. they are in essence a beefed up pb engined digifant.
my other thought is i've never heard of anyone doing this, i know that doesn't mean it can't be done but looking at the vw world most things have been tried and if it was that easy this would be a common conversion. can't help you any more than that fella!

Yes it can be done, I did it and it worked OK, turbo is a bit small for big HP. You will have to mod the ex manifold for clearance, head gasket is not a problem for 6psi, but you will need more fuel and pull the ign timing..
