OK, just shortened the HT Lead which was on the car when I bought it about a year ago and so am not sure what length the OEM part is.  Suffice to say I was eventually able to shorten it by almost two thirds of it's original length.
Once again I haven't tested the output voltage from the end the shortened HT lead compared to the original length but it will be a  bit stronger simply due to the reduced resistance which cannot do any harm.  Not difficult to complete, works fine and should improve things...

Final update on this as after shortening the lead last night I ran it this morning and there is a noticeable difference in the way the it runs similar to how the engine feels when you flush it and change the oil and filter.  I also took the opportunity to seal the caps where the wire feeds through with silicone sealant making a waterproof seal which should help when driving in the rain since I have no undertray.

The resistor is used to limit the power used by the coil to its normal running requirements when driving down the road.
If you take it out you run the risk of pulling to much through the coil all the time, the ballast resistor is used selectively boost the spark during start up where the increased load is only for a few minutes.
Correct me if I am wrong I am not an auto electrician.

Rotor arm £2.99
Coil £60
bhp gain ?
Think ill leave mine the standard.
