Removed ITG Now It Keeps Cutting/Erratic Idle
« on: 20 January 2013, 20:59 »
Hi there got a bit of a problem I need sorted ASAP.

I have recently removed my ITG induction and put my standard air box on. The problem is it now won't idle and is very erratic so much so it stalls. Disconnecting the MAF sorts it out. Now for the confusing thing,

I popped the ITG back on and it's fine? Runs as it should. I have removed the battery for a day to try and see if it resets the ECU's expectations to no avail. The ECU is remapped

Fault code is:

17497 - Mixture Regulation; Bank 2; Range 1
P1089 - 001 - Lean Limit Exceeded

Thanks in advance.

I guess my first question is why would you want to put the stock air box back on?

Secondly, if it is mapped it will depend on how it has been mapped as to whether it will run okay with the stock air box on. Was it mapped with the ITG on? Is it a generic map or a custom one. If it is a custom one then it may have been maxed out to accept the ITG intake potential.

The thing I find strange though is that it is telling you that it is running lean and not rich! If it was running too rich I could understand it more due to the restricted airflow. Are you sure there is a filter in the stock box?

Have you tried taking it out for a blast with the stock air box on? Could be adaptation?

Clutching at straws a bit here too, but sure is a weird one.

I was taking it off as I have sold it. Yeah there is a filter in there.

Yeah It was mapped with the ITG on. There is no vac leaks in the pipe after the maf to the turbo that's been checked.

Can't see why it works with the ITG, and not with the standard intake  :undecided:

I would love to try and drive it with the standard intake on but a press of the throttle stalls the engine.

if its not an air leak then something strange is going on with the maf sensor when you put the stock intake back on. its not possible to fit the maf sensor backwards is it?

100% on the correct way. Double checked that.

weird! it'd need to be a substantial leak to cause that sort of behaviour, i can't imagine you'd mess up fitting a standard air box that badly. something electrical going on perhaps... although im a bit confused as to why your ecu thinks your engine has a bank 2 at all  this is your GTI right?

Have you checked that the rubber o-ring between the air box and the downpipe to the turbo is there? Sometimes this can fall off and be missed when putting things back together.
