That's true, but then again they say buy a car from old people as they're never ragged yet they're the ones that are most likely to go bang as they often go years between servicing. Buying an evo, especially off an evo forum would mean I'd be buying it from someone who genuinely has an interest in that car and takes care of it.

Really? That's a pretty sweeping statement!

Just because it is owned by an enthusiast doesn't mean that it's not been ragged within an inch of it's life.

That's true, but engines are designed to be used, especially on high performance cars like an evo. Mine gets a hard workout most times I drive it, yet it still runs sweet and still above factory power. Look on here, 95% of us will service our cars either before or on the recommended miles and we will always try and buy the best parts to use.

Somebody old would usually follow the manufacture guidlines, its the younger fools that seem to bodge or ignore stuff due to not been able to afford to do the work

a EVO is a needy car, needs servicing loads.. these are not cheap cars to own or repair, my mate had one and got rid, it was just too much for him to do right.

If you do all your own servicing though, it can't be that expensive surely!?
Oil and Filter every 3k, lots of us do that anyway!

What else do they really need to service? Belts more regular than most? Again, labour costs would make most of that up. People spout off about them being very expensive to run and keep, but its usually just second/third/fourth hand from somebody that couldn't or wouldn't service it themselves.

Good question actually. I know it's mroe expensive to repair when and if it goes wrong as there's more high performance parts (turbo for example), but servicing in itself can't be much more than a golf?

It was the same story for a friend of mine who owned a Scooby,  fantastic bit of kit but ludicrously expensive to keep on the road in good serviced form and ended up selling it and buying a VR6 for pocket change.

You could always import.

My brother imported a Legacy GT a couple of years ago and for the price of a 100,000 mile car he got a 35,000 mile car with fsh.

Also, with the Kei car tax relief going on over there at the moment, prices on bigger performance cars are lower than ever.

It's a bit harder than just going and buying a local car, but I think it's worth it.
