MK3 20v Conversion HELP
« on: 18 January 2013, 13:07 »
Hi all I am currently finishing a mk3 20v conversion and have a few issues i need a little advice on.
1, I am told a vr6 throttle cable will fit but were can i get one from and is this the best one to get? tried eBay and GSF but no look.
2, what front mount intercooler to use i have heard that a mercades sprinter one will fit but not sure which type ie year or model, (dont want to pay a fortune on stuff like forge and would like it to be concealed so cant be seen)
3, And what piping kit for the intercooler. is there a specifict kit ie audi a3 pipe kit or mk4 golf or do i need to make it up myself.

Any help would be most appriciated

Thanks

I prefere to use DBW throttle

But we have used mk2 golf 1.3 cables in past due to length

Intercooler u can use whatever you want however would not go
Too big, theirs loads of slimline universal ones on eBay

Piping, theirs no off he shelf, we make up our own. It's pretty easy to figure out what's needed once u have everything in the bay

cheers boys, i had a hunch that the mk2 1.3 throttle cable would work i have one but the end that connects through the bulk head is differant but doesnt look a lot of work to modify and its got to be cheaper than paying main stealer prices for a vr one.
ive had a quick look at the universal fmic's on ebay but didnt want to bite the bullet and then struggle with it being to big, but i trust your knowledge on the basis your car looks fantastic. the only thing that got me leaning to a sprinter one was the fact its black and theirfore a bit more stelth im wanting to keep the car as standard looking as poss, but saying that i think the one u are running is pretty sleek, its hard to research doin a 20v conversion without bumping into ur car

thanks again
tony

yeah the car is pretty well documented over the net etc

for the stealth look, we did a golf Mk3 estate this way, and matt blacked the FMI

i dont have a pic at hand but here is the car when it wa sin a 95% finsihed state

the intercooler the owner chose was this one, which i sprayed matt black

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

you can actually buy a kit off these guys with a load of pipes included with the IC, you end up with loads more than u need. if its a regular 20VT like used in this estatee car (not a S3 one like mine in the black golf) you can use the rear metal pipe from the original set up that goes to the intercooler (small L bend pipe) but have it pointing the opposite way to how it is when in a audi A3 or MK4 golf  (dont have pics with me to show which pipe i mean)
