Before you fit a new arm, you must chase out every last bit of aluminium from the splines, or the same will happen again! use a Stanley blade, and run the pointed end into the spline to clear...
When you fit the new arm, if possible, heat the end as hot as possible without damaging it, to expand the mounting point, fit and get the nut and washer on as fast as you can, as it cools, it'll become even tighter...
Then always make sure your wiper arm has not stuck to the windscreen with ice, before you operate your wipers...

And sorted it. Remember what I said about over thinking it - Well, that. I bought an original arm, and using a vice, I'll remove the kink which will allow it to do a full sweep.

What a load of drama for a wiper - Now all I need is for the snow to stop so I can crack on and plastidip the trim!

Before you fit a new arm, you must chase out every last bit of aluminium from the splines, or the same will happen again! use a Stanley blade, and run the pointed end into the spline to clear... I did this with a small wire brush - I had to as I previously used a rubber washer to get me home when it happened.
When you fit the new arm, if possible, heat the end as hot as possible without damaging it, to expand the mounting point, fit and get the nut and washer on as fast as you can, as it cools, it'll become even tighter... Thank you for this - Not immediately obvious, but makes perfect sense. This is a great tip!
Then always make sure your wiper arm has not stuck to the windscreen with ice, before you operate your wipers... Well said, I always tell people this, you'd be amazed at how many people simply don't check!!
