mk3 AAM engine ecu pinout
« on: 14 January 2013, 20:54 »
Hi guys,

i have an AAM engine in my mk2 which keeps cutting out. it only occurs when the fusebox is waggled. i have stripped the loom out and been though all the plugs for the engine loom as i suspected a damaged wire. i have had no luck in finding the problem.

i have however discovered a white and grey wire (leaving the ECU on pin no29) which comes into the car towards the fusebox. this wire was stripped of a plug at one end and the copper internals were bare. i do not know what this wire does.

perhaps this wire was shorting out and causing the ecu to shut down and instantly cutting power, until the fusebox is wagged which breaks this contact?

iv troweled the internet and cant find an ecu pin out (and the haynes is useless!). i have discovered the fusebox layout http://www.a2resource.com/electrical/CE2.html

also what system is the AAM (its a 1.8 spi 8v, monotronic?)

thanks in advance
Paul

Right first thing is you've posted in the MK3 section, should it have been in the MK2 section?

Anyhow, I had a MK2 GTI, which kept on doing this, intermittent it just cut out, and messing about with the fusebox, and it usually sprung to life,

what I learnt was that water somehow gets to the fusebox, causing this problem.

And it is a common issue on the MK2

i presumed due to it being a mk3 engine, then id get more of a chance of a decent reply.

iv changed the fusebox as a friend of mine said this may be the cause and iv tried 2 others. still no prevail. iv had the loom back in now and after going though it having repaired one wire, its still f**king about. im still struggling to find the ECU pin out information.
