Changing dashboard dials, legal query
« on: 09 October 2003, 16:05 »
I'm investigating the possiblity of changing my dashboard dials.

I'm aware that the second hand sets I'm looking at have radically different mileage.

What (legal) actions would I have to take to changing to a low mileage dial?

simple, just adjust your new dials to that of the old high mileage

quick way to do this is to stick a high speed drill on the end of the speedo cable.

im not sure if you can maybe get a note on your log book to say the clocks where changed with <date> <old mileage> <new mileage>

if you dont inform anybody then your basically clocking your car

I think if you try and modify your new clock, you may end up making it look you've clocked it for the worng reason (ie reduced the mileage) - Which means you look dishonest, when you were actually trying to do the right thing!!

However, if you keep your old dial, you can show what the mileage was when you changed, and I would take a couple of photographs showing the install of the new clock. This confirms the mileage of the new dial when it went in.

It will then be very easy to identify what mileage the car has done, you get your new dial without running the risk of fcuking it up, and you have proof of the mileage covered by the old dial.
