Torque app odb2 compatible?

Been told theres a phone app called Torque which is £3 and it uses odb2, the bluetooth adaptors about £15 off ebay and it supposedly gives you everything and more a vag.com would do. Firstly is my 97 8v gti odb2 compatible? And if so anybody got any experience with this app?

no don't work....

our mk3 only have obd2 socket, however are not obd2..... protocols are different

obd2 readers for torque don't support the required protocol.

I tried my Scangauge on my '96 TDI... It didn't work  :sad:

On the Scangauge website it says it will work with all TDI models except those with "black ecu" (what ever that means?!)

As far as I know OBDII wasn't standardised until around 2001 on petrol cars.

obd2 came law in 1996 for usa sold vehicles and euro 2 euro emission reg's in the same year, early systems were more limited.

1999 seems to be the big change year (for example you can flash remap vw's from mid 99)

Im glad ive seen this before i ordered a Bluetooth adapter  for the Torque app i downloaded last week.  :lipsrsealed:

I thought the petrol went to OBDII in '96 but the "ebay" bluetooth adapter didn't work on my '98.

A shame - I was looking forward to using it...  :sad:

As I said above OBD2 shaped socket only on mk3 not actual OBD2, the protocol behind is still the same as it was on the OBD1 2x2 port.
