One for all you Drinkers.
« on: 13 January 2013, 11:34 »
Just had a call from my dads partner, my dad has been in hospital cince new years day!

At first he had a Anjina attack, then the doctors have run more intencive tests, turns out he has a pancreatic cyst, this is down to a life of drink, started at 15 - and now at the age of 41 , 42 in feb and perscription drug abuse, anti depresance etc due to him not having anything to get out of bed for, lost his job 3 years ago due to the drink.

Im 22 , with a good life, and T total for the last 3 years, and for this reason and various sewerside attempts from my dad, that has made me in to the mature young man i am today!!

It is a big eye opener, but 4 cans of carlsberg export and a bottle off red wine a night for over 20 years seemed normal!

Think before you drink!

(sorry just needed to get it off my chest!)

Sorry to hear that about your old man but I'm same as you.

Don't get me wrong I was a binge drinker from 17 to 20 on weekends but now I drink once a year (Xmas)

I know people that are having problems from drinking, not problems with it.

Also got some mates little older than me (I'm 26) and there skin is really bad from drink. A lot of red broken veins on the face. Also mixed with smoking and bad diet.

So if its showing on the surface what is happening beneath? Scary sh!t

Glad I've picked the "boring" life no drinking, smoking, good diets and gym.

Drinking's not the problem.
It's not being able to handle it that is.

Throw in drug misuse and that's it!

Err not true alcohol is worst drug and does the most damage esp to pancreas & liver , Toby's dad would be better just taking the prescription drugs its safer. Last year alcohol killed over 30,000 people in this country and its still rising , drugs killed 1100 people yes alcohol legal too. Toby with the right support I hope your dad will be able to access treatment to address the issues, I myself had liver failure last year due scirocsis but I havent drunk booze for 15 yrs, so your dad could do the same through treatment . I wish you well mate Steve.

Fingers crossed he will pull through!! It's been a hard 3 years, and now he lives 40 odd miles away and me not having a car makes it difficult but talking on the phone is always hard, constantly repeating himself!!

Also a very heavy smoker  and very poor diet of eats at all

Only time will tell! I'll haft to take a day unpaid this week to visit, operation tomorrow by all accounts!!

It's fine quoting numbers, but they mean nothing against percentages.
I bet a whole load more people drink than take drugs.

And I guess that's one more reason why I shouldn't buy a Scirocco?

yepp thats what they do, still go for nights out but stick to pints of coke. then drive home and normally make a few quid giving lifts to the drunk people there out with.

done it a few times my self, however still like to go out and have a drink :) but have cut down alot recently
