top left hand inner side of the wing as looking from the front of the car

or on the stickers in the boot, or the driverside door pillar, or your service manual or your V5 doc

cant think of anymore

will look something like this:-

Gambit has got some of the locations correct although never seen it on the drivers door pillar myself.

1. Offside side inner wing plate. Between the bulkhead and strut turret.
2. Stamped into the bulkhead, lift the bonnet and you'll see the black plastic scuttle cover where the wiper mechanism goes. this cover has a clear section and you can see the number through that.
3. Sticker on inside back panel in boot.
4. service history book inside front cover.

And as gambit said also in your V5.

I am suprised the VW garage man cant find your car from your reg.VW has it logged on a main computer and the parts man has looked mine up before when I haven't quoted my chassis number.

He is a bit pony that bloke, I haven't seen him for a while so they might have sacked him for not having a clue what the hell he was doing.
