Well today I have done several test runs to compare how a £300+ GPS based Racelogic performance box compares to the £2.99 Dynolicious app being used on an iPad 2 using the GMeter.
All I can say is I'm flabbergasted by how accurate the app is. I recently had my car weighed and so know the weight of me+ the car to a kilo and so whp figures are also as close as they can be calculated by both systems.
I did a few test runs with the app running to find out how it works and if there are any weird features to it. As long as you set off the line clearly the car will give good figures. Move a little before testing or set off before it says go and the figures get confused. Once I'd got the hang of it the app is easy to use and the results are very accurate.
My runs ( surface is wet, cold and muddy ) came out as 3.8 seconds to sixty for BOTH systems, 4.3 to sixty for Both systems, 1/4 mile in 12.89 for the app and 12.9 for the Racelogic box. Intermediate times for 0-10,0-20,0-30 etc were all less than a tenth of a second apart. The dyno function appears to be relatively accurate too giving between 310 and 330whp across the results and almost exactly the same results from the Performance Box.
All in all I can highly recommend this app as a means of recording your times as long as you set it up and use it correctly.
