VR6 coilovers on my 16v

Looking at a decent 2nd hand coilover setup rather than new JOM's, as everyone says you get what you pay for and seen some VR6 coilovers i like.

AwesomeGTI sell them and say the same kit will do for all mk3 variants going from a 1.4 to GTI to VR6?

Surely because of the heavier lump in the front of a VR6 then it would be different to a 1.4? What the stance on this?

They more than likely all the same spring rate hence why they are for all mk3 golfs.

There isn't much difference in weight. It's just that where the weight is on a vr.

I've got 1.4's on my 16v and they've been fine. It's only the estate and cabby that needs a different version, then thats only the rears.

Have you picked a VR6 up?
I can lift a 6 cylinder block onto an engine stand...not so a VR6 block.

There is a HUGE difference in weight.


As for coilovers being the same...yeah, some are.
The trouble is, they ride really well in a VR6 where the engine weight works against the stiff springs...on the 4 cylinders they just feel too firm.
An example: Koni coilovers ride much better on the VR6 than the 16v...despite them being the same kit.

I had the same issue with some Weitec front springs (which came in a full suspension kit)  due to the spring rate and ending up buying a full Eibach sportline spring kit as they were slightly more compliant on my 16v

The difference in weight between the two cars is 60kg. What do you weight? Do you change your spring rates to account yourself and a passenger?

So say the weight is all front end so front coilovers has an extra 30kg to deal with. I personally don't think it's nothing to worry about.

I would worry about spring rates if I built a track day car, but I'm quessing its not.

Is it a daily car?

Christ I curl 30kg dumbbells in the gym, granted I am a genetic freak though.

How much does a fall tank weight I bet about 60kg do you worry about spring rates when your tank is now getting empty.

I don't want to argue or disagree all I'm saying is it doesn't matter unless your a driving god.

You will be fine mate. If coilovers state they fit all models of mk3 golf then the spring rate will have been compromised.

As I said the weight difference from vr to 16v is no different from full petrol tank to a empty tank.

I was a body builder for 5 years prior to karting. Training 6 times a week. I'm also a genetic freak and put weight on very easy. Loosing the muscle now seems to be impossible  put ripped like gods chiseled child
