has anyone removed the resonator from your standard GTI MK6 exhaust???

anyone??? I just want to know what kind of sound that produces and whether it is reversible if you don't like it.  I know very few stuff on mech engineering so forgive my naïve question

alot of people do this on the US site and seem to like it.

it would be reversable i suppose but not ideal

non resonated systems sound really nice on the GTI and not intrusive or boy racer-ish in any way

That is matter of taste....I did it and I thought it was pretty awful and pathetic and cheap...
I picked even a smaller mufler...but the best sound for me was standard...so back to sandard and quite a bit of money gone......anyway I had the experience  :whistle:

yeah, I don't want to be doing this and then get a car sounding like a diesel.  will probably not be doing this

No it does not sound as a diesel...

I was convinced (as most youtube listeners) that it was a great thing to do ....how wrong I was.

The sound and resonance in real life is completely different to the wonderful sound on youtubes.

The standard resonance is on an MKVI around 1700 rpm...hardly noticeable and most of the time in a non working environment (eg idle)....changing the exhaust in anyway will put the dominant resonance in a different area...e.g with a smaller Simons Muffler in lets say 2700 rpm....
I think ( make that I know) that area means trouble.....eg when you drive 120 km per hour in 6th the dominant resonance will not only be much louder (unmuffled or smaller muffled) but also constant..... :embarrassed:

It might be a totally different ballgame if you change more parameters ( cartuning) but to me the best overall result is standard exhaust....

thanks for your input eric, really made me think twice about changing the standard exhaust.

Please no, don't do it! The sound in those clips is awful  :sick: The first one sounds like a Lambretta scooter.

Don't be tight and just buy a decent exhaust system. It's an expensive car so do it right
