Remap fuel economy
« on: 10 January 2013, 13:35 »
Hi All,

New forum user here. Recently bought myself a mk5

I've been reading all about getting it re-mapped. It seems everyone who has rated their remap says how excellent they are with lots of pros but no cons. It seems almost to good to be true!?

Being the cynic that I am... I find it hard to believe that a re-map has little / no effect on fuel economy. Is this really true, or are people so in love with their re-map performance that they look at their MPG indicator through rose coloured glasses?

I appreciate immediate cons may not be apparent... but has anyone thought about how the life expectancy of a car is affected by a re-map? I would expect a turbo with more compression to wear out faster, no?

Hope someone can shed some light on the matter for me and/or put my mind at rest maybe before I bite the bullit.

Pete
