stage 2 remap?  that sounds like I should already have stage 1 remap, right?  and when you say remap, you mean??? I once tried stage 1 revo but didn't really like it and removed it.  but that alone was about 600 pounds.  how is it that stage 2 remap is 400?  I assume this is millitek remap, and it's different to the revo thing, meaning different costs.  Could you please, please give me a total approximation from no stage to the stage 2 condition you describe??? Also, does this come with money back guarantee in case I don't like it?? Apologies for the long/multiple questions but would really love to do this and need to know as much as possible before doing it

To try to answer your questions simply,

1. A remap is a reprogamming of the engines software to increase performance. Big name tuners are the likes of Revo, APR, Superchips etc

2. A stage 1 remap is a basic programme designed to increase the performance of an otherwise standard engine.

3. A stage 2 remap is similar to stage 1, but tailored to take into account other modifications such as an exhaust an intake.

4. Milltek make exhausts. The do not do remaps.

5. Some tuners offer free trials of their stage one software, but other than that there is no money back guarantee if you don't like it.

I hope this helps.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

excellent, so many thanks.  with regards to your no.4, on their website, Millitek advertise the race exhaust system and an ECU remap that takes the gti to 282bhp.  So is that remap done by someone except millitek?

thanks again, you've been very useful and comprehensive

I would take a remap first...that will most certainly deliver more grunt....And it does not change anything to the car itself.

The grunt comes with loads more performance so win win....

The standard tips are way too small...if you get the 90 mm Fox (or Milltek) tips on the MKVI or 80 mm on the MKV you stay OEM look but a better overall GTI look.....and believe it or not those small tips DO change the sound (a bit ) for the better as well.
