MAF Unplugged

I have a slight flutter on idle and also when i hold it at revs, thought it was a dodgy MAF but i unplugged it and it makes no difference whatsover, and also hve vagcomd it with no fault codes....coul dit just be a dodgy maf?

Have been to volksmania today and bought a replacement MAF and have also cleaned the throttle body so that it looks pristine and also reset the ecu by unplugging battery for 30 mins....issue is slightly better but it still idles a little rough, it fluctuates by about 50rpm each way...and its a little shudder...had all ignition leads replaced..I dont have a clue what else I can do.. PLEASE help hahaaa... :cry:

why did you replace MAF? If unplugging does not make it better (as it uses substitute values) then it won't be faulty.

Disconneting the battery is not a throttle body adaptation..... Get someone with VAGCOM to do that for you!

Mine used to do this, i gave it a full service including fuel filter change and new plugs and it got a lot better, it still was slightly rough after hitting high boost. then I took of my smic and emptied about a half pint of oil from it and did pcv delete when installing a catch tank. rough idle is no longer a problem!

I cant pin point exactly what sorted it but just a few ideas you could look at  :smiley:

Replaced as it had an aftermarket air filter on, and it was only a fiver more to have the complete air box and MAF, so in the future if it breaks, have one as a spare.....

It seems to run a little better after the throttle body clean, so can only assume its only something little and stupid...would a engine coolant sensor be the problem as i have read up on here?

I have 'acquire' vag com and going to plug it in tomorrow to see exactly whats wrong, but its more of an annoyance than anything as when revving it is fine and also get 30+mpg...so god knows really, would be nice to sort it though!

I had the same problem and also went into limp mode over 90 mph so I put in on the best machine known to mankind and turned out to be 02 sensor!!works a treat know!
