gear linkage after conversion
« on: 08 January 2013, 13:13 »
so after my 20v conversion my gear linkage is slightly lop sided. in the pic you can see the gear stick is leaning over towards the dirvers seat instead of being central. i know the bush on the relay shaft is pretty shot, so im gonna order a complete linkage kit with bushes and shafts, as it all could do with replacing, but could anyone shed any light as to why the gear stick is leaning over so much? its hard to get 5th gear and it seems like theres a spring missing or something?

thanks in advance
Cory

Just undo linkage and move it. You need a mate to hold it while you do it up, I haven got any so I used the tool from eBay to hold the stick in correct position

Had same problem.. If you look on the end of the long gear rod that goes in to engine think its a 13mm nut just undo that and reagline your gear stick but as i found 1st and reverse are so close that i kept putting into reverse !!! In the end just binned the lot and done a mk3 16v gear cable conversion thered a whole set up in parts for sale

thanks for the info guys! much appreciated! will get a mate to help me out with holding it then. i did have an 020, but in my haste to get in out of the rain in the dark i left it outside the unit i was working at whilst doing the swap. needless to say my gearbox wassnt there in the morning, and no one has seen or heard anything about it. so i had to settle with a sach clutch for the standard box until funds allow another 020

Technically he nearly has the remains of an 020, which is preparing to die, but hasn't yet.
