Mk2 headache!!
« on: 04 January 2013, 23:41 »
Hello fellow dubbers!! Am here once again looking for help as I'm all out of ideas! Soooooo the story goes... I gets in me car other week to go to work and all I hear when I turn key is 'click'. Starter motor gone! So, no messing about, went out and bought a new starter same day and fitted it int evening. Job done, or not as it would seem! When I turned key to fire her up all I got was the same click sound as before! It would appear I've splashed out on a new starter for nothing!! Now she does still go, with a bump start so no locking up issues. Have checked all relevant wiring, earthing and all seems fine. Have even tested the new starter to be sure to be sure and alls good there. I get the feeling am missing something really simple. Does any one want to put me out my misery and suggest a, 'have you tried this'. Also it would be greatly appreciated as having to push me car down road every morning to get it to start is somewhat getting a bit embarrassing.  :embarrassed:
Thanking any suggestions in advance!!

I can definatly rule out the battery. Was new about 2 month ago, and have tested it too! Think I'll go down the relay route. Thanks for the suggestions tho!!

Monies are still on the battery being flat.
Duff battery, especially if it was from Halfords, or something draining it, check bootlight, glovebox light, and radio are not drawing anything when the car is switched off
Faulty alarms and immobilisers, can also drain batteries

If it's a duff battery the voltage will disappear at the terminals when the starter is opperated.  Check that first. Usually the dash lights will go out and the clock will reset to zero if that's the case. Then check the voltage at the terminal wth the braided cable at the starter ( to earth). You should have a healthy voltage at this terminal. If the battery and starter motor are OK it's likely to be bad connection on the power side to the starter
