What to look 4 in a Mk2 GTI ?

Thanks for all of the info - it's really appreciated.  
Feel like I know quite a bit already now.

Anyone know where they list all of the specs for various years - like in the price guides where it tells you what year stuff was added to the spec - like PAS, leather etc.  Just want to make sure what I buy is correct spec - and not bits added on from other Mk's.

Go for a post 1990 gti 16v, you will get the best spec with that

also drivers side bolster on the seat. sometimes it's known for the seller or someone else to swap the seats round so this damage is on the otherside. also avoid buying off fat thingys. fat thingys convert buckets to 1.1 fiesta spec quickly
