Putting a car back on the road
« on: 21 July 2005, 16:25 »
Im in the process of looking for a cheap run around to use instead of my valver as a daily car.  I have found a golf in a nearby scrap/salvage yard for sale at £85, it a mk2 1.3 looks sound but has the following problems:

Lock done on passanger front door (replace with a back handle?? easy fix)

The stearing column has been pulled off the bulkhead support and the indicator stalks smashed but no ignition damage by the looks of it.  How difficult is this to fix and what parts am i likely to need?? just new stalks and drill out the bolt and replace?? also what do you think the cost might be??

Also the car is recorded as a cat D, what is the procedure for putting the car back on the road? simple mot/tax or is it more complicated than that??

Cheers Tim

Sounds like it' a stolen recovery! so anything could be wrong, clutch, gear box, engine etc - depends on how long they had it for :)

Round by me when they have finished with a car, they put it up on bricks, and put a brick on the accelerator and watch her blow! (Alan Bastards)!!!

you could buy a sound mk2 1.3 with some MOT for £150 if you look hard enough mate.

id walk away from that one if i were you, why would anyone steal a 1.3 golf except to joyride home in.
