In currys all tv's are turned up to maximum settings, so not really representative.

Also, "LED" is not LED it is LCD with a back light. Only this month has a true LED tv been released and it is from LG.

50 inch plus = plasma.

Also depends on if you have a light or dark room.

Look on HDTV site for reviews.

Yes but led lit= better range of light and higher saturation of colour!! Led/LCD is still miles better than backlit LCD  And confused what you mean by 50 inch plus = plasma? Lg may be releasing true led but they did not create it

Just bought a 42" Panasonic Viera Smart TV.
Was going to buy the 40" Samsung but when we went to buy there were 3 options all lined up together,
(plus a 42" LG ) and we chose the Panasonic on picture quality alone.

Yep but also the problem with this is especially in a shop is sometimes they compare a 1 yr old model on crap settings with a newer other branded model with correct settings to make it look better!!! As agreeable slick says in currys don't be fooled by what they show u at the end of the day they are working on commission and will sell u what they need sold

Not that I'm saying Panasonic is bad at all because they are amazing tv's I am just loyal to Samsung having worked for them previous and no there quality.. Second to Samsung I would be having a Panasonic bad boy

I realise that, but none of the big players have yet released an LED television. LG are the first this year.

Meaning of 50inch plus = Plasma. Is that anything over 50inch in size is generally speaking plasma's playground. Image quality far far superior to an equivalent LCD(LED) screen.

Basic rules are viewing distance will dictate viable size, and if you have a light room get a LCD, if a dark room Plasma is better.

Agreed.
Buy using the one that gives the best picture...and to my eyes, at 50" (even 42") and above, PDPs give more natural colours, blacker blacks and handle motion better.

In reality, if using only HD sources, you can double the set size suggested by most traditional thinking.

I agree on the light/dark room comments though.
LCDs go brighter - and often less natural.
PDPs go darker without losing detail.

If you are looking in a shop like Currys, see if you can get the remote and change the picture mode to 'Cinema' if it had one. That's likely to have the closest to natural colour reproduction.

Buy what looks best to your eyes.

if you like watching stuff on bbc iplayer or itv player etc make sure the smart tv does have the latest apps as my samsung doesnt have the itv player and its annoying.

i have the 46" led tv and its brilliant, especially when watching hd/blu ray movies.

I just bought the LG 47LM640T from Currys for £649. 47" of pure awesumz!

I did ALOT of review reading and trawled through the AV Forums before making the purchase.

Very happy with it, well worth the money even without the 3D.
