Help Please Engine Problem (gti 8v)

When driving along and changing into what ever gear i put my foot down the car will rev like normal then all of a sudden will rev even more like its wheel spinning, its been doing it mostly in 5th gear, has anyone else had this problem before or can tell me what it is.

Clutch slipping?

Does the clutch still slip even when its in gear, i have no idea about clutches and how they work?

Defo clutch slip by the sounds mate,it will slip the most in higher gears .

The way to tell is, put the car in 5th gear at 30 mph, then put your footdown and if the revs start rising very quickly, then it's defo clutch slipping
