Rear view camera flapper issue
« on: 24 December 2012, 18:08 »
Hey guys,

So not really a mk6 query, more a general issue I have with the rear view camera on a passat CC (although I believe this to be the same setup as the Golf)

Something that has happened a few times recently is after reversing, the boot flap doesn't return to the closed/flat position, even after driving for a few miles. It seems the only way to get it to retract is turn the ignition off/on, select reverse, select forward/park. It doesn't do this all the time, just occasionally.

I was just wondering if any of you guys ever had a similar issue on your Golf's? Head unit is RNS510...

Never had that with mine, although the image on mine doesn't line up right! does it seem like it's sticking or is it more like it's not getting the signal to retract? Ie can it be pushed in?

Hrmm, well I'm guessing it's sometimes just not getting the signal to retract. Because when I check on these instances, the camera is still locked in position, as is the badge. If I get chance I might try upgrading the firmware on the RNS.

Be careful with updating the firmware Scott(ScottA) tried to do his not long ago and he ended up bricking his, he had to fork out for a new motherboard....

Is it still in warranty? Dealer visit methinks? If it was just sticking it could've just been a bit of muck in the mechanism but if it's stuck in place then that's obviously doubtful.

Took the CC in for a recall and got them to have a look at the camera flap while it was in. Quel surprise they couldn't reproduce the issue. Luckily the flap was stuck open when collecting the car and pointed it out to the dealer again. Apparently they are going to replace "a control unit behind the back of the RNS". Does this sound right? I wasn't aware of any units behind the radio.

Will update again when it's done
