Need help with clutch, wont release properly!!
« on: 19 December 2012, 18:25 »
Please someone help me with this! I am fairly new to this mechanic thing alltogether. But I can manage to tell the various parts from eashother, also understands th basics of engine\drivetrain :p
Just bougt a "new" 1996 1.6 74kw Wagon. Got the numberplates on i yesterday and took it for a ride on the freeway. I noticed that in 3rd n 4th it kinda slipped a bit when i opened the throttle... Got a look at the clutchlever and its not "landing" on that little knob, misses about 2 centimeters or so. Also the clutchcable is tight as h%ยค#. I know its not supposed to be that tight when pedal is released. Someone recomended i used a jack to loosen it by liftig it from underneat. That just made i worse! Now the car hardly moves at all! anyone familiar with the selfadjusting clutccable on mk3 golfs? I tried to find it on norwegian forums but didnt. Kinda hopes someone here may be able to help me... Supposed to use the car in to days for our holidays!!! HEELP :\

If you got the self adjusting cable then you can try the following.

Push the clutch pedal fully down (from the driver seat obviously) for at least a five times, then in the engine bay push the clutch lever on the gearbox down (i.e. the opposite way it would normally move) all the way for three times.
If this does not work try pushing clutch pedal few more times and try again.
Should it still not do it you need to reset the cable. This involves some basic tools and a second person.

good luck...
