Should the title of this thread be "Brakes not spelled correctly!"

Sorry, but "brakes" is spelled correctly  [I've noticed a lot of people spell it "breaks" though, which a different animal altogether]

Sounds like a sticking calliper piston - does the car pull to one side when you brake?

I did an edit... silly me :embarrassed:

Good point. I did not notice the car pulling. Performance is good and fuel economy excellent.

My wife hardly ever drives my car and I don't rest my foot on the brake.

The brakes were fine again on the way home from work yesterday. Going to the garage this morning. Will let you know if they find anything. Thanks all.

Well, the brakes have been checked by the VW garage and are, "100%." :undecided:

What they think happened, is that the brakes had cooled and been completely covered in water. This is entirely possible. On my way home from work I tend to keep my distance from the car in front and use engine braking only. A habit developed when riding my old V-twin motorbike. It had really good engine braking.

So basically I need to modify my driving style :undecided:

In the rain, should I -

A - tailgate the car infront and be constantly dabing the brakes, even thought I have no opportunity/intention of over taking, thus having every driver behind me thinking I am a complete tosser in a car with flash led brake lights?
B - Perform an emergency stop every once in a while to clean the water off my brakes and waken up the drivers in the cars behind me.
C - Allow even more room approaching turns and junctions and get down the gym to work on my leg muscles.
D - Extend the brake pedal over to where the clutch pedal should be, so I can use both feet to brake.

Seriously though - on my way to the garage I had to drive around a 4 car pile up  2 cars looked like write-offs. Though everyone seemed ok.

So in the rain, keep your distance, dab your brakes rather than using engine braking and concentrate.

The woman in the black Fiesta that I have just followed for around 20 miles in the pouring rain must have heeded some of that advice. There was traffic as far as you could see traveling at just over 40mph, but she was making up for the slow pace by being right up the arse of the car in front of her, meaning she was braking every 20yrds. At least me being able to see her brake lights most of the time made up for the fact that she had no funking headlights on.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

i thought if your wipers were on the front brakes 'dried themselves' by lightly applying themselves so wet brakes should be an issue in these cars?

Does not explain the smell or wifes coments in the original post imo.

I'm an extremely lite braker and have not suffered this on the 6 or the Leon. (years of driving my other cars, 1950s 60s cars will drum brakes!)
I can see the reasoning and have suffered brake issues due to wet discs in the past in certain conditions but it sounds too frequent and other things you have said make it questionable. :undecided:

It has just happened again. My wife tried it and agreed.

Today the brakes are fine again :undecided:

I did notice this morning that the passenger footwell light is flashing bright intermittently. Gremlins?
