Missing oil filler cap help!!!
« on: 18 December 2012, 10:01 »
Hi guys I just need some piece of mind and a little help. I had to change a bulb last night and when I opened the bonnet to my surprise a certain something was missing (see the pictures)

Now it looks like it’s just the top part, and the main part that actually seals all the oil in is still there and securely in place, so my engine won’t be spilling oil out all over the place any time soon, or so I hope. Can someone just confirm that I am still OK to drive the car as it is right now? I have a new oil cap on order but I use the car every day and I want to make sure it is safe to drive before I do.

Thanks.

Mrk V, GTI, 3dr, DSG, heated seats, winter pack, cruise control, rear parking sensors and now thanks to GizzyWizzy and SteveP in the MK6 section a RCD 510. Awesome!

Mine fell off as well. This engine bay is full of s**t plastics.

I bought one of these as a replacement:

Whats left of your cap will be fine although might need something to twist it with.

You would soon know if your cap was missing...

quite common this! it'll be fine to drive. you might find the missing bit somewhere in the engine bay or sitting in the under tray

This happened to me with an Audi R8 oil cap. Switched back to the normal one and it's been fine.

I brought a replacement from VW at a cost of just under £7. Cant really call them stealers with a price like that.

Got to admit I haven't looked very hard for it. At the moment when I leave the house in the morning its dark and when I get back home its dark, been lazy if I am honest. Will have a root around this weekend.
