Mk2 Simple tuning.

Hi ive got a mk2 golf gti 8v, was wanting to know some simple modifications to gain bhp. any ideas?

There is very little you can do on that engine in terms of bhp gain. Fit a good panel filter and keep it regularly serviced to maintain smoothness, other than that just enjoy it for what it is, a good little work horse.

8V requires a fair bit of work & £££ to make significantly higher peak bhp values.
However, you can bump the torque up in the low to mid range.

This Digifant one has a full exhaust from the downpipe back & has had the head skimmed, slightly increasing the compression. = 130lbft!



You can go nuts on these spending tons of cash only to end up at similar outputs as the standard 16v engines.

2.0 bottom end is the cheapest and best mod for them

Getting it set up properly first would be best.
Some people don't get the timing marks and they end up running a tooth out. My mate had a garage ring him up and say the cam pulley was on the wrong way round which it wasn't.

Yeah or that. So glad I didn't mess about with a 2.0ltr bottom end and all that.
Lot less money aswell.
