Front fogs - misted up
« on: 14 December 2012, 18:32 »
I'll try and get some picks tomorrow but had any one else noticed this? I know its been really damp lately but they don't seem to want to dry out? I've even tried driving with the lamps on to try and dry them out. Am I right in thinking that its not a sealed unit and its something I'll just have deal with or do you think it may be a warranty issue?

Take them out and put them in the airing cupboard for 24 hours to dry them out fully. When you refit them, make sure the bulb holders are sealed tightly and all should be fine.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Funny you should say that but I did drive through a shallow flood the other day and it does seem to be since then, I know that sounds a bit obvious but I'm kinda hoping its just a matter of them drying out?

I drove through a big flood and had the same problem.  I open the flap and took the bulb out and the dried out a bit.  However it was so cold that it did not dry out much.  How do you get them off to put them in the airing cupboard?

Good question, I thought about taking the ball out and sticking the mrs' hair dryer in the back. Perhaps wait until she's out though!

I had this last year and ended up getting a warranty replacement.

No matter what I did, I couldn't dry them out - even had some cloth on a piece of wire to soak up the water then left the lights on all the time but no joy so in it went - no problem since.

Also, check the access covers in the wheel arch haven't gone AWOL and are fastened securely - they are bu99ers for not clipping in allowing water to penetrate through the bulb opening

I'm not 100% sure with the Golf, but I would have thought it was a case of removing the suround trim to expose the fixing bolts for the light unit. I've got a feeling you need to remove the light to change the bulb, and it tells you how to do that in the handbook.

The bulb is accessed via a hatch in the wheel arch lining, I'll get the winter out of the way and sort it. Here's a pic:-
