Android - Best Sat nav app
« on: 12 December 2012, 20:59 »
Whats the best sat nav app for android, I want the files to be fully offline without data. I know iGo use to be good and thats what I use in my cars built in unit, apart from that I'm clueless. Google maps is good but I hate how limited the offline cache is.

Thanks in advance.

I find CoPilot really nice to use.

I've used Sygic - free two week trial as well. Took me from here to Germany and back with no cock ups.

What about Google Navigation ? It's free as long as you have 3G data and works pretty damn well !

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

I got my partner a galaxy and took her old android phone and flashed it with oxygen, its got no sim card inside, so my idea was to use it as a satnav for my bike. I could tether my phone to it as that's what I do to my tablet at work via WiFi but ideally I don't want that as a few places have black spots like when I visit family in cotswolds. Plus I'm planning to get a bigger bike and do a few trips to Germany as we have friends and family there so offline maps are really what I'm after.

Off the shelf satnavs are quite chunky, so using a phone seems to be the way I want to go.

Sygic is very good and allows you to download the maps to your phone
