Why invest in lenses?
« on: 05 December 2012, 19:46 »
If you haven't seen this (old) video, it's worth checking out as it points out why to spend more money on your lenses than your body.

I hate it when people use the term 'invest' in this sort of context.

You're just spending it.  Unless you're a pro you're not going to see a return on investment.  :undecided:
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight for 2-10 people? PM me.

Ok, so it's not "investing" in that sense, in the same way as you don't really "invest" in a car, you're unlikely to see a return.
But it wasn't my phrase.
I've spent money on lenses, but not made any money from them. Although I did make a small profit selling one on ebay.

The point is that it's worth spending more on your glass than the body, because a lower end body can make good use of good glass and when eventually you want a better body, you'll have the glass to match.

Oh for sure.

I just dislike the hijacking of the term 'investment'.  An investment makes money.

You can invest Time and Money into a hobby, but the yield is deemed to be good photographs, no?  It's not like you invest time into a hobby and complain that you don't get it back later.
