temp gauge problem

Hi,

Has anyone else experienced same issue, my temp gauge in my Golf Mk4 2.0 8v only goes to the first line (even when vehicle has been running for a while), it will ONLY sit at 90" if the engine is running and not been driven.

Here's a pic (I had just driven for about 20 minutes and it only moved to the first line)

I have had the temp sensor replaced, the only other thing I can think of is the thermostat?

I second your thought it is the thermostat. Sounds like it is stuck.

have had this issue, all of a sudden today it hit 90 for the first time in about 6 months. will keep an eye on it. previously it would hover about 75/80

Its your thermo, little tip: make sure you buy an OEM and not a cheat replacement.

My MPG isn't the best, but it's the 2.0 GTI so don't expect much lol.

I doubt it will cause damage if left, but I would feel safer knowing my temp gauge is working properly and showing the correct readings and for the likely cost to repair it's worth doing surely?

I have booked mine in at a local VW specialist today and they're charging me between £25/30 fitted.

can someone just confirm for me, is the termostat the one on the engine block? at the top? right hand side i belive?

is it the temp sender thats the one in line with the coolent/radiator hoses?
