Burning Oil
« on: 02 December 2012, 22:53 »
Hi guys I have a 2.0 8v AQY engine in my golf and have had to put 2 litres of oil in it over the last 5 weeks would that be because the oil was to thin. I used 5w 30 vw502 spec but my car has covered 106k Should I use a thicker oil?

Thanks in advance

Thicker oil might serve to slow down the oil usage very slightly or not at all compromising the lubrication to your engine in cold and initial starts. It's not ideal, there is a problem with the engine which needs to be diagnosed and addressed.

I'd really start wondering where all that oil is going! Any spots under the car when its been sat for a while? could just be a leak or could be something a whole lot more expensive! i.e. knackered turbo

Mine was a bit dark when i dropped it out like, but for the sake of £19 for 5lts of Quantum from VW i dont mind changing it more often.
