One pipe operates the EGR other operates the ASV, I would think a fault would be logged if EGR was not working though, the vac line for ASV I presume only receives vacuum when you shot engine off and flap closes to shut off air to engine, it would also kick in rare case of run-away engine, once there is not vacuum the flap returns to open, I guess thats how it works?
Have you taken the EGR boost pipe off to have a look at the internals of the EGR unit? ie carbon buildup.. could do with cleaning out?
