Simples....
Loosen wheel nuts, jack car up and place axle stand under the car (at a suitable spot like where axle is bolted to the floor), lower until it rests on stand but also keep jack there taking a bit of weight to make it more stable.
Take wheel off
Now, turn the drum until holes align horizontally
shine a torch inside the front upper hole, you will see a silver wedge, use a flat screwdriver and push upwards, this releases tension from the automatic adjuster.
Next, take the grease cap off ("chisel" off with large flat screwdriver and rubber mallet)
Take the split pin out (have a new one handy! 4x30mm but 4x40mm will also work, i.e. latter one is the only suitable one my local halfords stocks), remove and retain crown, undo nut and retain nut and washer behind it
Pull drum off, look out - centre part of outer wheel bearing may fall out.
and now it's off....
what do you wanna do from there?
now you can change brake shoes, cylinder or wheel bearings etc...
when done reverse of above is roughly how it goes back together,
put drum back on, replace centre part of outer bearing with new grease (would also re-grease inner bearing).
put the washer on, then tricky bit.... tighten up nut a touch, and I mean a touch NOT LIKE A MONKEY!....
it is the correctly tight when the drum does not have play anymore, but should not be too tight as otherwise your bearing will run hot and eat itself, the wheel will seize and you'll crash (well being a bit dramatic here).
you can test this with a relatively simple test.... when the wheel does not have play anymore you should be able to move (rotate) the washer behind the nut with the tip of a screwdriver with reasonably little amount of force.
when you're there place crown on nut, push NEW split pin through and bend pin ends round.
put new grease in grease cap and push on square, then drive in with rubber mallet.
but now what do you wanna take them off for?
