What mk gti do you have? Mk6 has never been £150......

The £455 is the first year rate as it was a new car, after that the ED35 is in band I for the DSG and band J for the manual which is £215 and £250 respectively, the DSG just gets into a band lower than the manual.

The standard GTI is £195 now as i taxed mine yesterday, so not to much more for the ED35 especially if you have a DSG.

Could have sworn i paid £150 last year for my MK6 GTI tax, very wrong it only went up £5 to £195 this year. Just checked on the gov web sight.

Oh well, not so bad then.

Iirc the gti started at 165-170 a year then has gone up ever since.

Other posters don't make the mistake of mixing the new first year tax for new cars with the amount it will cost in yhe second year the amount is different due to the tax on new cars.

good little write up as 35 is a grower, you can get caught napping in the K04 at lower revs when off boost compared to the IHI in stock mk6 GTI, only drive mine once or twice a week at the moment but always puts a smile on my face

Eyeball phew thanks for info

Didnt know about this "new car tax hike", When did that happen?

I saw it on the tax disc and thougth WOW does the DVLA think i bought a supercar or something. I hadn't noticed the car tax til my own replacement disc came through with £445 on it. I thought WOW thats a bit steep

so now is it Govt squeezes more money from new reg in 1st year then it drops to something slightly more sensible in 2nd year? and by other posts £250 a year
