BAM rods
« on: 20 November 2012, 16:28 »
Right I am trying be friendly to my mate at my local motor factors, as he's putting a massive Garrett turbo on his Mk1 Audi TT(so should be running well over 350 bhp). Im trying to tell him that BAM rods are the same as AGU rods and he'll be running a risk of his engine going pop/bang if he doesn't change them. Are the BAM rods stronger than the AGU rods? as he tells me that the TT shop have told him that theyre the strongest rods of all, easily capable of 350bhp.

Ive told him change them but he doesn't believe me, thinking they will be fine because the TT shop has told him.

BAM rods, same as AGU rods.
It's not reliable but yes it will take it for a short time depending on the mapping.

DEFINITELY need forged rods for that power.

Stock rods can be maxxed out on a k03s.   300lbft is all they take at thats lucky,

I don't understand where this f**kwitt belief that BAM anything is any good has come from.

BAM engines are nothing special, in any way what so ever :( they're just the same as APY, APX, and AMK engines aside from a few silly little ancillaries.

All of which are sh!t compared to the mighty AGU :(

Forged rods, preferable 20mm pins, and preferably 9.5:1 pistons not 9:1's. It's the way forward....

Ive gone 9.25:1 on mine :)

However, you can never really tell some people with things...same with the FMIC vs SMIC debate.    BAM = SAME management as AUM but with EGT and a couple extras.  Hardware near same too.  Size of the pin doesnt do much unless running silly power as its not the first point of failure.
