My bad!

Yeah I could do, but wont they just do checks on the car and be like the car was not fitted with this originally or do you not think so?

Ok from what I know it's a version c manufactured in 2011.
The problem was it was running a lower firmware than it should have been originally, now it's running a 2660.
I'm worried about bricking it, and it maybe the unit is faulty I'm not sure.
Spoke to VW they go £2,000!

VW said they would charge me £60 to try a firmware update no guarantee that will work though, I don't want to spend money on repairs if they don't know how to fix it or if the unit is faulty.

Original owner is going to say not his problem I suspect when I get in touch.

If the unit is 2011 is it not covered by a 3 yr warranty?

I would work my way up one MDI firmware update at a time, testing to see if it solves any issues at each update, once its solved don't bother updating anymore. Thats what I did fortunatly it solved the "Cant remember where I left off with the hard drive on USB" on the first update. So I left it there.  If someone has a VCDS that can scan the car for you it will tell you the firmware version of the MDI.

What year is the car? as the chances are the MDI's never been updated?

Which MDI firmware should I start with then?

Anyone with a VCDS nearby? maybe? at least its a good start, I see its a 2012 GTD what month was it registered/built? i.e. the http://www.my-gti.com/category/in-car-entertainment/mdi gives you an idea on date.

That is why I said mine was retrofitted and they updated mine. Its just your luck but there is nothing to stop you trying a few dealers.
If you are going to the dealers with some other work then they are more than likely to try and sort it for you.
