Coolant spilled everywhere so i replaced thge coolant and massaged the rad pipes and followed the steps on here on toppoing up the fluid(run car with heatet on and expansion tank ooen till bubbles over. Tgen turn car off fill till brtween min max and off i go.

Now thge heater blows weak and smells like it is burning and tge cold air doesnt blow at all.

Do i need to air out the system again???trapped air?

Would appreciate the help so i dont destroy somethingimportant. The car does not overheat.

Yes you probably have air still in the system

No! Getting the car hot so the thermostat opens will do the trick

i did this last time. took cap off of reservoir tank. turned on car and heater full blast. revved car to about 2000rpm's. overflow tank bubbled over. turned off engine. levelled off coolant. screwed lid back on to overflow tank.

result: weak blowing of heater and cinder smell. cold . air almost doesnt blow at all. car does not overheat.

today when i got home i noticed that the rad pipe was quite firm(upper) so took top off of overflow tank.

some air escaped and top rad hose more malleable. left top of overflow tank off and massaged top rad hosw. did not screw top on again yet.

will this be enough?  or should i rev it sgain tomorrow morning and repeat the procedure?

It not blowing as much does get me thinking, but can't see how that's been affected from a little water spill.

You have a air lock. Do not put the cap on (how will the air escape?) let it get hot, keep squeezing the hose. When its hot see if the matrix hose is hot! You have no hot air so I doubt hot water is getting to it.

Does it click the fan in?, did you let the fan kick in before putting the cap back on, whn u tried to tale the air lock out?

Was your heater working perfectly before. I have similarly poor heaters on my vr6 but thats caused by the foam seals on the flaps inside the heater box have perished. I can't get pure hot or pure cold air and have weak blower pressure.

update; i forgot to put the cap back on and drove off to work. about 10 miles later remembered that the cap is off. by this time i had lost the cap so i returned home and got a spare cap and put it on. now the heater works as it should but the cold vent is weak. i think it will be ok over the winter. i am getting too forgetful....

You say the blower is weak? When on cold?

Check the pollen filter.
